The photo above signifies my hope and our help for an innocent man who may soon be walking out of prison after sixteen years. Sister Veronica's Prison Ministry |

Welcome to my prison ministry site. I am only one of thousands of Religious Volunteers who spend time with the inmates of the California State Prisons. We always need more Chaplains, more Volunteers! The men are always asking for priests to come and visit them, and hear their confessions, and give them a loving ear to their situation. Please pray and discern whether you are being invited by the Holy Spirit to be a Chaplain or a volunteer. If you are a Roman Catholic Priest, everyone knows you are very busy with your parish work, but ask God to make room in your schedule to volunteer and hear the Holy Spirit's invitation and ACT ON IT! You will be blessed! View of Guard Tower and visitors parking lot at California State Prison at Lancaster, California ![]() About me: I am a Roman Catholic Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet of the Los Angeles Province located in southern California (across the canyon of the Getty Art Museum). To the right of this column, where I am asking you for a favor, I am making an offer of one of my art prints but you need to know that I am a retired teacher with an MA degree in Art. You can learn more about me by clicking on my art website which has links to my other sites also. Click on this: http://artforambience.com
I have a big favor to ask of you today. Please help an innocent man, who was refused a new trial on Jan. 10th, 2012 "to get on his feet" if he wins his appeal after 16 years of unjust incarceration with a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for a crime of murder in the first degree which he did not commit. The prison officials will send him out the gate without even so much as a penny because he is innocent and is not eligible for services parolees are. See the how to help column to your right above. Thank you! ![]() Taken while driving from Fresno, California to the CSP at Lancaster California. Most prisons are built out away from cities. This adds extra miles for visitors. I enjoyed driving through the High Desert. Status of this man's case: In 2009 the Southern California Innocence Project took on his case and on the final session of his hearing before Judge Gregory Dohi in Van Nuys, California, the judge refused to give Mr. Edward Philip Contreras a new trial. Now the Innocence Project Appeals Lawyer is preparing to take the case to the California State Court of Appeals. Click the link below to find out more about the Southwestern School of Law's Innocence Project: http://www.cwsl.edu/main/default.asp?nav=cip.asp&body=cip/home.asp Note: To be of most help to this innocent man, please send any donation directly to Sister Veronica Brutosky as instructed on this site. Thank you and God bless you! |
The purpose of this website may change and grow as time goes by so I hope you will come back and visit me here. My purpose is to communicate with you about my prison ministry, what I do, what my presentations and time with the inmates are, and give you an insight into life in prison. It was a surprise to me and I guess it might be a surprise to you at the depth of the spirituality of the men I minister to at the CSP at Avenal with Chaplain Rodney Ornellas in the Diocese of Fresno, CA. You will learn more about this in weeks to come. I am hoping to reach other religious volunteers and give them a place to share their services and stories. In the meantime, I would like to request that you share the link to this website with anyone you wish. That sharing, too, would be a great service. Let us recall the words of Jesus: "Whatever you do to the least of my brethern, you do unto Me." How to help this innocent man: Sign up to be on my mailing list on my Contact Me page if you want more information about this brave and patient man. Help with Justice for him. He entered prison at 25 and is now 41 years old so he has had his whole mid-life stolen from him. I have been working to get him out of prison since February, 2007. Any amount wil be a help, but I will send you one of my unframed signed original prints for your kind donation of $20 or more to thank you for caring and sacrificing. Questions?
